INTELLISYS CINEMA ATMOS 9.4.4
Highlights:
Our demonstration Cinema has now been updated to Atmos 9.4.4 with recently launched speakers from M&K sound, including the THX Dominus IW500s for LCR, 2 x THX Ultra X12+ and 2 x C15S 15” Subwoofers, the top end AVM90 Processor from Anthem and a new JVC DLA NZ 7 4K laser projector. Of course, the theatre retains all the previous room treatment, including bass traps, absorbers and diffusers all adjusted to accommodate the speaker changes, as well as the unique D-BOX motion seating, and the 155” Acoustically Transparent Anamorphic Screen from Image, Germany.

It all started August 2012. We used M&K speakers including the legendary S150 re-incarnation, S150Mk2’s for LCR, surround sides and rears and 3 x M&K MX-350 dual 12” subs. These were initially powered by an Audio Control Maestro M5 Processor and TGA-7400 power amplifier with a JVC DLA 1080p projector and an Oppo BDP-83 Special Edition Blu Ray player.

After months of testing a range of materials to use for absorbers and bass traps and spending time in designing and constructing quadratic diffusers, we started installing these into the space.
We used REW software and calibrated microphones to measure the performance of the room treatment. The processor and speakers were set up for Dolby and DTS HD 7.3. Aside from the DSP on the processor, we also worked on integrating the 3 sub-woofers using a Behringer DSP as well as a Mini-DSP and their calibrated microphones. This was done “live” using REW while adjusting the room treatment.
Then we added over 50 circuits of DALI Lighting, including designing a centre dome of RGBW.
We also fitted off all seating with D-BOX motion Actuators. This is the SUPREME add-on to any serious cinema. FEEL THE ACTION!
The room was then prepared and made ready wrapping the entire room with stretched Acoustic Fabric.
All stretched fabric work completed, including a custom designed central dome with 45 channels of RGB lighting that can spiral in and out. The diffusers are behind the fabric but can be backlit as an effect. All the equipment and media were housed in a custom cabinet below the screen.

We had a bit of time up our sleeves during Covid so we decided to upgrade the theatre to Atmos 9.3.7. The cinema walls and ceilings were stripped, and the redesign was done to accommodate flexibility in mounting the 4 height speakers and the future addition of more speakers (!)

All the existing stretched fabric, other than the central dome, was removed and discarded. New framing for fully adjustable Atmos Height speakers created along the 2 two lengths of the cinema.

We added a 16ch Acurus Muse processor and a second Sunfire TGA7400 power amplifier, 3 x M&K S300’s for LCR, 2 x M&K X12’s Subs, 1 x M&K X10 sub. The extra speakers were all M&K MP950’s for the Front Wides and the 4 height Channels.

The introduction of new processing from Anthem, THX Dominus LCR’s and new bone rattling Subs from M&K beckoned and we succumbed. The Intellisys Theatre now features the very best that Miller & Kreisel produce in terms of speakers and subs for serious home cinemas that can accommodate 20-40 seats.

The Audio is stunning. It is hi-fidelity at it highest! The sound is gentle and clear when that is needed but we can easily surpass THX SPL’s and still sound crystal clear at Rock Concert levels!!
